The Long Walk Home is uniting the greater Sarasota Community in a grassroots endeavor to raise awareness and vital funds to prevent Veteran Suicide. The Long Walk Home, a privately funded nonprofit organization, is on a mission to create hope and save veterans’ lives throughout the community. Every dollar raised through The Long Walk Home events and fundraisers are strategically invested in life-saving education, training, and support programs, designed to provide hope and assistance to those contemplating suicide.

But we're not just powered by big donors. Everyday heroes like you, whether it's $5, $20, or $100, make a significant impact.

Gather your teams, family, and/or friends and walk for a great purpose, preventing Veteran suicide and support the mission. The Long Walk Home is dedicated to preventing veteran suicide by offering self-empowerment courses, suicide prevention workshops, and community-building events at no cost to veterans.

The journey commences at the 8:30AM opening ceremony, beginning with the first challenge, Gratitude. As you progress throughout the day, you'll encounter ten thought-provoking challenges. These challenges are designed to promote self-discovery and personal growth. Along the path, tables will be set up with mentors and veterans, ready to guide and support you while working through these challenges. The final challenge, at the end of the walk, is a post challenge assessment, so you can reflect on your growth and progress.

At the Walk for a Vet event, the Venice airport will come alive with delightful food vendors, many of whom are proud supporters of The Long Walk Home. A variety of tasty treats will be available for purchase to satisfy every craving. Music will fill the air, creating a lively atmosphere. It's a celebration of unity and goodwill, where you can enjoy great food and music while supporting a vital cause.

Everyone who raises $50+ will receive a gift that shows your commitment to The Long Walk Home and our mission to end Veterans’ death by suicide!

These gifts are a small token of our appreciation. If you choose not to accept the gift, all donations will be used to fund our mission.

1) Raise $50 - Receive a Hoo Rag

2) Raise $100 - Get a Tumbler

3) Raise $250 - Earn a Hat and Hoo Rag

4) Raise $500 - You'll take home a Hoo Rag and a Backpack

Additionally, team captains who bring at least 2 other walkers with them will receive the Challenges Workbook. Your presence and contributions can truly make a significant impact in our mission to stop veteran suicide.
